What happens when different cultures, creative minds, and a little Halloween magic come together?
A campus full of unforgettable moments, new friendships, and opportunities to speak English beyond the classroom!
Monthly Activities are a regular part of life at BECI EOP Campus. More than just a break from academic lessons, these activities give students opportunities to interact, build friendships, and discover one another's cultures. With EOP's diverse, multinational student community, every gathering becomes another opportunity for meaningful cultural exchange and immersive English practice.
For October, students and teachers came together for a special celebration titled "Once Upon a Halloween."
Divided into four groups, students and teachers worked together to prepare their own presentations and performances. The celebration was filled with exciting relay races, traditional parlor games, and karaoke sessions that brought everyone together. From teamwork to friendly competition, the activity encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones and connect with people from different nationalities.
A Pageant Comeback 8 Years in the Making!
One of the biggest highlights of the celebration was the much-awaited Mr. and Ms. EOP Campus Pageant!
After eight years since the last pageant, its return made this year's Halloween celebration even more special. In the Philippines, pageants are a beloved part of the country's culture, known for celebrating confidence, creativity, personality, and stage presence. For international students, participating in or witnessing this tradition offered a fun and meaningful glimpse into Filipino culture.
But this was more than just a competition.
While the candidates took center stage, all students were encouraged to participate in the different activities throughout the event. The pageant's introduction and question-and-answer portions gave candidates the chance to practice expressing themselves in English, while the games and group activities helped everyone develop their listening comprehension, confidence, and ability to follow instructions in English.
Creativity Meets Teamwork
Another crowd favorite was the candidates' Creative Wear!
Rather than purchasing ready-made costumes, the outfits were designed and created collaboratively by teachers and students using recycled materials. Their creativity, resourcefulness, and teamwork resulted in costumes that exceeded everyone's expectations.
It was a wonderful reminder that learning can happen through collaboration, imagination, and shared experiences.
Celebrating Every Participant
The celebration recognized different talents and achievements through several special awards:
- People's Choice Award – Determined through online voting, allowing friends, families, and loved ones from around the world to show their support.
- Darling of the Crowd – Awarded to the candidate who received the loudest cheers from the audience.
- Runway Royalty – Recognizing the best catwalk performance.
- Best in Casual Wear – Celebrating style and confidence in casual attire.
- Best in Creative Attire – Recognizing the most impressive creative outfit.
- Mic Drop Award – Awarded for the best answer or most impressive answer delivery.
Mr. and Ms. EOP Campus – The grand title awarded to the pageant's overall winners.
All participants received cash prizes as tokens of appreciation for their efforts. Meanwhile, the four groups, together with their teachers, were also rewarded with goodies to enjoy and share.
More Than an Activity, It's an Opportunity to Grow
At EOP, English learning goes beyond textbooks and classroom discussions. It happens during conversations, group challenges, performances, and even karaoke sessions with classmates from different parts of the world.
"Once Upon a Halloween" was a celebration of more than just costumes and competitions. It was about building confidence, embracing cultural differences, strengthening friendships, and creating an environment where students can use English naturally in everyday situations.
Because at EOP, the best learning experiences don't always happen inside the classroom. Sometimes, they happen when we come together, share a little laughter, and create memories along the way.
